Travel and Lodging

The conference will take place on the campus of Michigan Technological University, 1400 Townsend Drive, Houghton, MI 49931.

The town of Houghton is the gateway to the beautiful Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The regional airport is Hancock, Michigan, (CMX), located 7 miles north of Houghton, with two daily flights to/from Chicago O’Hare (ORD). Other nearby airports are: Marquette, MI (MQT) (2 hours drive from Houghton); Escanaba, MI (ESC) (3 hours); Green Bay, WI (GRB) (4 hours); Duluth, MN (DLH) (4 hours); and Wausau, WI (CWA) (3.5 hours). The Conference will provide local transportation.

Rooms are blocked at the Franklin Square Inn (906-487-1700) a short walk to the campus. When calling the hotel, please mention “PinT 2020” to receive the block rate. If you make a reservation with a third party the hotel can’t give the rate. The rooms will be held until July 1.  The Super 8 Houghton (906-482-2240) is also a short walk to campus (no conference rate is available). Other choices are Quality Inn and Suites and Ramada across the Portage Lift Bridge.

Parking

You can park at meters (see Parking Map, select options on map). Or you can get a parking permit: Go to Parking and Permits and click “Visitor Parking Permits” at the middle bottom.

WIFI

Michigan Tech is a member of eduroam, a wireless network that lets visitors securely connect to the internet when they travel. Alternatively, guests can also select “MichiganTechGuest” in the WiFi networks.

Dining

There are many restaurants in the Houghton and Hancock area as well as a Starbucks and the North Coast Grill and Deli in the Memorial Union Building on campus.
